Frequently Asked Questions About BIM Pro Station

Answers to the questions we’re asked most often—about technology, applications, implementation, and cost-effectiveness.

Basics

What is the BIM Pro Station, and who is it intended for? Here you’ll find answers to frequently asked questions about digital workflows on the construction site.

What is the BIM Pro Station?

The BIM Pro Station is a central information and workstation for digital execution on the construction site. It makes up-to-date plans, BIM models, and project data available in large format and directly on-site—for project managers, site managers, foremen, supervisors, and construction teams. It combines construction-ready hardware, the applications used in the project, and professional services for operation and support.

Who is the BIM Pro Station suitable for?

The BIM Pro Station is suitable for construction companies in building construction and infrastructure construction, as well as for model-based assembly work in timber construction, metal construction, and plant engineering. It is particularly aimed at construction managers, site managers, foremen, supervisors, and construction teams who need to access digital construction information reliably and easily.

Does the BIM Pro Station work even without BIM?

Yes. The BIM Pro Station can be used for digital plans, documents, lists, and project spaces, even if no BIM process is in place. Its benefits increase with the use of BIM models and CDE platforms—but BIM is not a prerequisite.

Does the BIM Pro Station replace tablets?

No—it complements them. Tablets are suitable for personal, mobile tasks. The BIM Pro Station creates a shared workspace with a large-format screen for plans, models, and meetings that the entire on-site team can access—without each person needing their own device.

How does the BIM Pro Station differ from simple digital plan rooms?

Simple digital plan rooms are conventional plan rooms that are retrofitted with IT components. The BIM Pro Station was developed from the ground up for use on construction sites: for ergonomic work, enhanced reliability, reduced support requirements, a longer service life for sensitive IT components, and a professional service model.

Technology and Features

Questions about the BIM Pro Station’s hardware, connectivity, applications, and security.

Which applications can be used on the BIM Pro Station?

The BIM Pro Station is designed for the applications already in use within the project—CDE platforms, digital project spaces, plan management solutions, IFC viewers, and issue management systems. Depending on the project, these may include, for example, Trimble Connect, BIMplus, or comparable solutions. Data ownership remains within the existing project and IT environment.

What devices can be used with the BIM Pro Station?

The Expert and Advanced models are equipped with a laptop or a rack-mounted PC—depending on the preferences of our customers’ IT departments. Switching between the integrated Planhaus PC and external devices is easy—just press a button. Protected charging compartments are available for tablets and surveying device batteries.

Is the BIM Pro Station suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. The BIM Pro Station is specifically designed for demanding construction site conditions in all seasons. The specific configuration is tailored to the project’s location and operating conditions.

Does the BIM Pro Station work without a power connection?

The integrated UPS ensures that the system continues to run in the event of a power outage. This means the system does not need to be shut down when being moved around the construction site—a practical advantage in daily operations. Additional expansion battery modules are available as an option for several hours of autonomous operation.

How is the BIM Pro Station connected to the internet?

The BIM Pro Station is equipped with a high-performance 5G dual-SIM router, and depending on the model, may also include an eSIM. The goal is to provide reliable access to digital applications and project data during daily operations—even with large data volumes and regardless of the construction site’s Wi-Fi infrastructure.

How are data and access rights protected?

The BIM Pro Station uses the applications, user accounts, and authorization concepts defined in the project. Access rights and data sovereignty remain governed by the existing project and IT environment. The specific security architecture is coordinated as part of the project configuration.

What optional features are available?

All models are optionally available in an SOS version—for quick access to emergency equipment directly on the construction site. Additionally, custom branding is available to ensure a professional, recognizable brand presence on the construction site.

Setup and Operation

Questions about commissioning, training, and support for the BIM Pro Station.

How quickly is the BIM Pro Station ready for use?

The setup process has been deliberately kept simple. Typically, the customer’s PC is integrated and the components are tested before shipment—the system is delivered ready for use.

How time-consuming is the onboarding process for users?

The BIM Pro Station is designed so that foremen, supervisors, and construction teams can work productively with it after a brief introduction. Installation, setup, and user training are provided in accordance with the agreed-upon scope of services.

Do all users need special training?

The BIM Pro Station is intuitive to use on a day-to-day basis. Depending on the experience level of the user groups, a brief introduction may be helpful.

Who provides support?

Support and service are defined within the scope of the selected service package. The goal is to ensure that users on the construction site are not left to fend for themselves when technical questions arise and to relieve the burden on internal departments such as BIM coordination, the maintenance depot, and IT.

Cost-Effectiveness

When is it worth investing in a BIM Pro Station?

When is the investment worthwhile?

The BIM Pro Station delivers its greatest value on projects with multiple user groups on-site, frequent plan revisions, and a high level of coordination. When savings in planning effort, search times, coordination, and rework are taken into account, the investment pays for itself after just a few projects. A project- or company-specific potential analysis provides planning certainty.
